Optimizing an educational programme using K-means clustering

In May 2013 I did a project together with colleague Arthur Vankan on optimizing the planning of the educational programme School aan Zet. We optimized the grouping of schools and experts so that travel distances would be minimal and the groups not too small nor too big. We did this by implementing K-means clustering in (yes) Microsoft Excel, which was probably the most complex spreadsheet I’ve ever seen.
